The OET exam is a critical screening point, if you are dreaming of a medical career in other countries. In most countries, clearing the OET with a good score is a mandatory requirement for a work permit.

Incorporating certain methods in your study strategy can be beneficial in your OET preparation. Memory recall techniques are major among the proven strategies to improve in OET writing, speaking and even for other verticals.

What are Memory Recall Techniques

Memory recall techniques enable students to retain what they have learned previously. Anything that we read or learn will initially be stored in our short-term memory. In most cases, we tend to forget this information if it is not reviewed. When the same information is recalled after some time, it becomes embedded in our long-term memory, leading to better retention.

Before moving on to a new topic, make sure you have read or written down key points from your previous topic a few times to ensure retention. At the end of the day, when taking your exam, it doesn’t matter how much material you have learned. What matters is how much information you can recall and reproduce in the OET exam.

How to Apply This Technique in Your OET Preparation

Recall the previous topic: Once you sit down to study, before beginning a new topic, try to recall what you learned the previous days.  5-10 minutes of such recall can be very helpful in the long run.

Review your memory: After you try recalling the subject, cross check whether you were able to recollect the right information. If not, correct yourself then and there, so that proper things would be fed to the memory.

Connect with other topics: While learning a new topic, you might encounter instances where you come across some familiar information that you learned before. Stop there and try to connect the new and the old topics. Also try remembering everything possible about the old topic.

Practice consistently:  Every time you practice you are reinforcing the learned information, stronger into your memory.  The whole process of memory recall, put into regular practice, can be very effective in your OET preparation journey.

What are the Benefits?

With memory recall techniques, you can ensure what you learned stays in your mind for a longer time. The duration of retention increases with the number of times you recall an information. It also helps in the better understanding of the topics learned. When you try to recall a particular topic and miss something, you will be able to go back and clarify it then and there, which helps broaden your knowledge of the topic. When you can retain and recollect subjects that you have previously studied, you will feel more confident about yourself and will be able to perform better during the examination. Also, structuring your study and recall routine helps in managing time and in covering the topics effectively.

This is just one method or tip to make your OET preparation fruitful. At StudyOET, we incorporate many such proven techniques in our OET course to help you ace your exam in the shortest time possible. Our experts are fully equipped with the knowledge and knack to guide our students to success.
